Each person has their own unique way of tracking their contests, so I just wanted to share with a few things I do and give everyone an option to share their own for a chance to win a prize by commenting on this post.
Here is a screenshot of my Bookmarks in Internet Explorer:
I have created a Folder in my Favorites named CONTESTS where I put all my daily, weekly and monthly contests in. I used to separate them into folders of Daily, Weekly and Monthly but found it just didn’t work for me. By keeping them all in one folder and using a functional naming technique, I don’t miss any entries.
After I read the rules and see that the entry frequency is a daily, I bookmark that page using this simple title format.
Prize Information – Expiry Date – Who Can Enter
So if the prize is $1000, ends on April 30th and more than one person can enter in the household, the title ends up looking like this: $1000 -Apr 30 – BOTH. BOTH means that once I’m done entering all my dailies, my husband then goes through the list and enters the contests that say BOTH, using his personal information and email. These are only the contests that state in the rules that more than one person in a household can enter the contest.
I also like to sort my bookmark list by “NAME” so the large amount prizes are usually listed at the beginning. So if I am pressed for time that day, I know I have at least entered for the large monetary prizes.
You will also see a few bookmarks on the bottom that start with 24 HOUR. This title is very invaluble to me as this reminds me that I can only enter the contest every 24 hours and saves me from invalidating my entry for that day, or disqualfying me altogether.
Now for my monthly contests, this is where it gets a little weird. I find out the ending month of the contest, then name the bookmark. So if it’s a contest for $1000, open to more than one person in the house and ends in August, I name it like this:
$1000 – BOTH – APR-MAY-JUNE-JULY-AUG
Then every month once I’ve entered that contest, I delete the month I’ve entered for. Once all the months have been deleted in the bookmark title, I’ve reached the end of the contest. Sounds strange I know, but it’s the only thing that works for me to remember to enter the contest monthy. I’ve tried a few other methods that I have read about, but I kept forgetting to go into the Monthly Folder and missed out on entries!
So remember, there is no right way to bookmark. Its whatever works for YOU. My own technique may seem a bit foreign to some who use multiple folders for entry frequency or use a different approach to naming each bookmark.
I have heard of some people having an EXPIRED folder as well. Once the expiry date is reached, they move the contest into this folder for a reminder to check who the winners are on their website or on their facebook page. Although this method is used by quite a few people I know, I tend to just delete the link after the contest is over and hope for the best. I would love to hear from people who use an Expired Folder though on how they find it works for them.
Now, you may have more ideas on how to organize your bookmarks and we would love to hear them! If you comment with your ideas, it gives you one entry for a $20 Playstation Giftcard! Winner will be chosen April 15th. Each comment is an entry, so comment as often as you wish, but each of them must contain another idea! Good Luck!
Edit: Contest expired. The winner is: Mike – Mr K @mrkaboomcon.
