When you first start entering sweepstakes, you’re all fired up with the thought of winning. But as time goes on and the prizes don’t appear, it’s easy to lose your motivation. That’s why it’s important to have a reasonable expectation for how long it takes to win sweepstakes.
It’s true that some people get very lucky and win almost immediately, and you might be one of them. But in most cases, it takes months to win your first sweepstakes prize. Here are just a few reasons why it can take so long to win:
- Sweepstakes have an entry period that can last anywhere from a few days to months, or even years. Many sweepstakes don’t draw their any winners until the entry period has ended.
- Many sweepstakes don’t draw winners the instant the entry period has ended. They need to double-check their entries to make sure that they remove duplicate or otherwise invalid submissions. Sometimes, they may hire a third-party company to draw the winners, to avoid any appearance of impropriety. This can take time.
- Once the winners have been drawn, they need to be contacted. If there are a lot of prizes to be awarded, it can take a while to contact all of the winners.
- Some of the winners may not be reachable, may decline the prize, may not return their paperwork on time, or may not be eligible to receive the prize. This requires new winners to be drawn, and the contact process to begin again.
As you can see, it’s not unusual for the winning process to take months. To get an idea of the range of time it takes real sweepers to win, see Sweepers Share: How Long Did It Take to Win Your First Prize.
